After I had plotted out how the Original Trilogy events would change in the Rescue the Farmboy AU take, I had a few more ideas for smaller stories that fit into this AU take. So I decided to fit them in between the novels. This story is the first of those. I started the first draft on August 11, 2019 and finished it on August 17, 2019. And published it on Ao3 on September 15, 2019 after I had finished posting all the chapters of Liberation with the following author's note.
Luke: Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother?Leia: Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.
Luke: What do you remember?
Leia: Just images, really. Feelings.
Luke: Tell me.
Leia: She was very beautiful. Kind, but sad. — Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
Oh, George, George, George. If you couldn’t be bothered to rewatch the original trilogy BEFORE making the prequels, you really should have turned over all the reins to people who would have. And then we would have ended up with a Padmé who lived long enough for Leia to have actual fragmented memories of her instead of instant death and not pissed off a sizable portion of your fanbase, including me. So between the Prequels not being done right (I came out of the theaters muttering how I would have wrote script for free; my friends were very amused at my reaction but I was already a writer back then and was so not impressed with the films I had been given) and the EU now Legends that I dropped reading, I didn’t bother to find out how the EU used the Prequel characters until pretty close to now and writing my own fanfic.
I know I’m not the first one to give Sabé on Alderaan during Leia’s childhood a connection to Leia, but I wanted to work it into my fix-it fic anyway. I hope that my spin that Obi-Wan is slanting Leia to believe that Sabé was a Jedi is novel enough for the readers. And Padmé did not die of a broken heart but rather Darth Sidious yanked her life force out of her to give it to Darth Vader and Obi-Wan did not realize what was happening to stop it while it was going on. It didn't work how Darth Sidious anticipated, but Darth Vader has worked very hard to keep that fact hidden from the Emperor until Anakin and Padmé are ready to destroy him.
Unfortunately, Obi-Wan does not know Padmé has survived.
I finally got the story up at the Library on February 13, 2023.
