Signs and Portents:
Symbol of Intuition

Bruce in the PitThis was the second story I wrote in what became a series set after the Dark Knight Rises, even though it takes place in the middle of the movie and comes first chronologically. Overall, I liked the reimagining the Lazarus Pit into a pit that housed plague victims then turned into a prison. What drove me crazy was how long it took Bruce to realize that the rope wouldn't let anyone jump to that ledge. Okay, he was still injured when the first guy failed. But after his first jump? Come on, this is a guy who was hang-gliding between buildings in Hong Kong and Gotham City! He suddenly forgot how to calculate distances during his retirement? The second jump I expected him to untie the rope and leap. And he didn't. *headdesk*

In Batman: Partners, Bruce told Selina he dreamed about her while in the pit. Then I found out that cats symbolize mystery and intuition in dreams. Thus born this dabble.

I finished writing Batman: Symbol of Intuition on August 16, 2012 and posted it to LiveJournal first on August 17, 2012. Bolstered by good reviews and plowing through other additions to the Library, I added it on November 2, 2012 and the FanFiction.Net shortly thereafter.

After discussing a different the Dark Knight Rises series idea with a friend who kept confusing the two series, I finally decided on the series title Signs and Portents for this collection of stories on April 22, 2013. I wish it had occurred to me before publishing.
